      FIELD HOCKEY

 

CLASSIFICATION:          AA & AAA

 

TOURNAMENT FORMAT:          Single elimination with consolation for 3rd,4th, 5th, & 6th place in AAA. Single elimination with consolation for 3rd place in AA.

 

DATES:  AA – October 26,28,2010

Semi-Finals-November 2, 2010

Consolation for 3rd place on November 5, 2010

Finals-November 6, 2010 at Site to be Determined at 5:30 P.M.

Rain Date- For all games will be the next playable date

             AAA-October 25,27,29, November 3, 5, 6, 2010

Consolation for 3rd, 4th, 5th & 6th place on November 5, 2010

Semi-Finals –November 3, 2010 and beginning of playbacks.

Finals – November 6, 2010 at Site to be Determined at 3:30 P.M.

Rain Date – For all games will be the next playable date.

Six Teams Advance to State Playoffs

 

Sites/ Times: First, second and quarter-final round games will be played at the higher seeded team’s home field. Semi-final and final sites will be determined by the Steering Committee.

 

Games will be played at 3:30 P.M.  However, the site manager has the authority to change the time of the game – given reasonable notice.

 

 

Seeding Meeting:  October 21, 2010 at STBD.

 

Method of Seeding: AAA-A maximum of 28 teams will receive Bids.

                            

Twenty-Two teams will play on the first date. The top four teams will receive a bye and play on the second playing date. Teams will be selected and seeded in the Tournament by the Steering Committee. League record, overall records and strength of schedule will be considered. Each League will designate their top seeded team who will then be entitled to a seed in the tournament.

 

AA – A maximum of thirteen teams will receive bids. The top four teams will be seeded and will receive a bye and play on the second playing date. A maximum of eight teams will play on the first playing date. Teams will be selected and seeded in the Tournament by the Steering Committee. League records, overall records and strength of schedule will be considered.  Each League will designate their top seeded team who will then be entitled to a seed in the tournament.

 

 

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR SEEDING: It is strongly recommended that teams play a minimum of 16 games. Also, game schedules should be completed by the day prior to the seeding meeting.

 

 

OFFICIAL’S ASSIGNMENTS:

Umpires and timekeepers recommended by coaches and assigners.

 

TICKET PRICES:  FINALS $5.00

 

UNIFORMS:  The higher seeded team will wear white (light colored) uniforms throughout the tournament and will be considered the home team.  The visiting team will wear dark-colored uniforms.

 

EQUIPMENT:   Each team is required to provide one timing device and six balls of the same color (white or orange) with the national federation stamp. The officials will decide the color of the ball be used for the entire game.  No rubber balls are permitted.  Each team is responsible for providing two ball holders. For night games white balls will be required.

 

MEDICAL COVERAGE: Schools are urged to bring their own trainer. In the first week of play home teams should have a trainer on site. For neutral site games the game manager should have a trainer available.

 

AWARDS:          AA 1st place trophy and twenty-two team medals

                    AAA- 1st place trophy and twenty-two team medals

Twenty-two runner-up medals to both groups.

DATES OF STATES:          November 9,13,16,20, 2010

 

SUSPENDED GAME:  Any PIAA field hockey championship game interrupted due to events beyond the control of the site game manager, such as inclement weather, shall be continued from the point of suspension at a later time during the day of competition or the next day unless it is declared an official game because one (l ) complete half or  more of the game has been played and one (l) team has scored the greater number of goals.

 

CLARIFICATION:

·        If the game is suspended at the completion of the 1st half and cannot be continued and one team is ahead in the score, that team is declared the winner.

 

·        If the game is suspended at the completion of the 1st half and the score is tied, the game will be restarted with play beginning with the 2nd half.

 

·         If play is suspended in the 2nd half and one team is ahead in the score, that team is declared the winner.

·        If play is suspended in the 2nd half and the score is tied, the game will be started from the exact point where it was suspended.

 

·        If he game is suspended during the first half, the game will be replayed from the point of suspension.

BANNERS, SIGNS, NOISE-

MAKERS, BENCH DECORUM:

          Both the presence and use of balloons, towels,

Sirens, whistles, and portable listening devices           (without earphones)are prohibited. The Principal and Athletic Director of each school Will be request to confiscate these items from the spectators from their school and community. Small portable listening devices with earphones and stationary banners and signs, which are sportsmanlike in their messages, are permitted. Principals and Athletic Directors of competing schools shall announce an publicize these regulations.

 

The Principal, Athletic Director, Coaches, team physician, team trainer, players in uniform, managers, ball holders and statisticians will be the only persons permitted in the team area.

 

PRE GAME PRACTICE

Each team will be permitted a forty-five minute          pre-game practice (with sticks and balls).

 

CHANGE OF SITE: If a home site must be changed any time

during the tournament, the Athletic Directors must contact Sheila Murphy and Bob Ruoff for approval.
